Dr. Jeff Dowdy
I grew up in the small east Texas town of Carthage. I enjoyed hunting, riding horses, and raising animals for the local livestock show. I received Christ at the age of 10 at Vacation Bible School. I earned my Eagle Scout award at the age of 14 and eventually became involved in the youth group at our church when a new youth pastor moved to town. I loved going to Youth camp, but was profoundly changed by Christ while on mission trips to Brownsville, TX and Matamoros, Mexico. The experiences in these mission fields led me to love missions. I surrendered to the call of ministry on my life in between my Junior and Senior years of high school.
I attended Houston Baptist University and earned my BS in Speech Communications and Christianity. During these years I served as an intern and then a part-time youth pastor. After graduation, I served as youth pastor of a church while attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where I earned my Masters of Divinity with Bilbical Languages. I then moved to DeLand, Florida and was a youth pastor there for 9 years. During this time I earned my Doctor of Ministry in Leadership and Administration from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I also served as Pastor of Reaching and Ministry Development at First Baptist Church of Alpharetta.
I have a heart for seeing people come to know Christ. I desire to see our church fulfill the Great Commission by "making disciples of all nations." I also want to see our church follow Acts 1:8 and "be witnesses" in Swannanoa, in North Carolina, in the United States, and around the world.
I am married to my amazing wife Melody and we have two children, Keaton and Gentry Rose. I love spending time with my family any chance that I get. I also enjoy playing golf and have recently started racing in triathlons. One interesting fact about me is that in the last few years I have lost 50 pounds.
